The other noticeable sketches of the book are " The Canterbury Pilgrims, "a story of the Shakers, "The Great Stone Face, "a tale of the Proﬁle in the Franconia Notch, and the curious sketch "Major Molineux." "Old News" is made up from some old Boston newspapers, issued before and 5/5(3). His own preference, however, was for the works of the imagination, such as "Ligeia" (), "The Fall of the House of Usher" (), and "The Masque of the Red Death" (), tales of horror beyond that of the plausible kind found in the analytic stories.
